Google Looks to Bolster its Facebook Rival, Google Me, with Purchase of Angstro

Rohit Khare, founder of Angstro – a news site that catered to business professionals by filtering and displaying information deemed pertinent based on a user’s social graph, announced on the the company’s homepage yesterday that they have been purchased by Google as of yesterday. Also, according to the L.A. Times article, Khare has been hired by Google to help them develop their social networking project – Google Me.

Rumors of this “Facebook-killer” first surfaced in June of this year by Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, on his Twitter page (tweet no longer available). Google is keeping it’s social networking project pretty hush hush, but little clues keep popping up; including the above mentioned hiring of Rohit Khare and the hiring of Slide (another newly acquired company of Google’s) founder, Max Levchin.
